Someone sent me the following resolution which MAY have been proposed to the Central Committee of Douglas County. It is not clear to me if it was presented or if presented, whether it was adopted.
RESOLUTION BY THE DOUGLAS COUNTY REPUBLICAN CENTRAL COMMITTEE
Be it resolved this day of Thursday August 14, 2008 as follows:
WHEREAS, the Nevada Republican state convention on April 26, 2008 was abruptly recessed by Convention Chairman Bob Beers upon orders of State Executive Committee Chair Sue Lowden, with no plans for reconvening, and
WHEREAS, said sudden recess was not presented as a motion for a vote by delegates but simply dictated by Convention Chairman Beers in contravention of Robert¢s Rules of Order, and
WHEREAS, the decision to recess without a vote exceeded the authority of the State Party Chair and the Convention Chair since, once the convention was convened, only the delegates had that authority, and
WHEREAS, the reason given for the illegal recess was that the State Executive Committee had reserved the convention hall only to 6pm of that day, and
WHEREAS, with full knowledge that up to 2000 delegates might attend the convention and might clearly require more time than in previous years for deliberation and voting, the State Executive Committee arranged hours of time for speeches not essential to the business of the convention so that such essential business was effectively not commenced until after an extensive lunch made longer than necessary by more speakers, and
WHEREAS, such poor planning of time necessary to completion of the essential work of the convention delegates is indicative of lack of essential leadership skills of the State Executive Committee, and
WHEREAS, such illegal recess of the state convention has evolved into almost total disintegration of connection between GOP county caucus voters and the slate of delegates to the national convention chosen by an elite nominating committee to represent Nevada, a slate still unknown prior to this meeting today to the mass of state convention delegates and the precinct members who voted them to be their elected delegates and representatives, and
WHEREAS, such apparent contempt for the political preferences of the thousands of newly active county caucus voters threatens disillusionment of those new activisits and collapse of all of the intended benefits of Nevada¢s early caucuses, even making the Nevada GOP a laughing stock to the rest of the nation,
THEREFORE, let it be resolved that the Douglas County Republican Central Committee hereby enters a vote of NO CONFIDENCE in the entire Nevada state Republican Party Executive Committee, and further instructs the County Chair to forward this resolution to the State Executive Committee Chair forthwith.
