It’s for the Children

By Julia Silverman, Associated Press, 6/21/08

PORTLAND, Ore. - When Oregon education officials set out to devise a graduation testing requirement for high school students, they looked to other states for inspiration - on what not to do.

In neighboring California, dropout rates soared the first year the state required high schoolers to pass a test to get their diploma. And in Washington state, lawmakers simply canceled plans to require exiting students to pass a single, comprehensive math test, after fears surfaced that thousands wouldn’t measure up.

“We didn’t think any one test should determine whether someone gets a diploma,” said Duncan Wyse, vice-chairman of the Oregon Board of Education.

So board members chose a different route. This past week, they approved a plan that lets students pick from three options: a national test, state assessments or a local version, such as a student portfolio, to show colleges and employers they have mastered reading, writing, applied math and speaking skills. Passage on any one of the three, along with fulfilling course requirements, would guarantee a diploma.

The plan makes Oregon one of several states moving past the “one-size-fits-all” high-stakes testing that became commonplace in many U.S. high schools in the 1990s. In Pennsylvania, the Board of Education is considering a three-pronged approach similar to Oregon’s plan, while in Maryland, students who can’t pass the state tests could be allowed to do a senior project instead.

But some say such choices allow some students - and states - to take the easy way out.

Daria Hall, assistant director for K-12 policy at Education Trust, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit that advocates for poor and minority children, said the exit exams test skills students learned in ninth and tenth grades.

This you have got to see.

I want some TARP

The TARP Song (I WANT SOME TARP)

Lyrics

Well I am just a poor boy from the streets of Tennessee

I work real hard to pay my bills but its too much for me

I lost my job…they took my home…I’m down on my knees

but I heard about this place where money grows on trees

(Chorus)

I want some tarp

they’re giving money away for free

I want some tarp

save a little bit for me

From Boston to Seattle … across this great big land

tuck your head between your knees…..and take it like a MAN

I’m packing my belongings off to Washington D.C.

They’re printing money left and right and I want a stack for me

I’ve got an idea that just might work with what they’ve gave the companies

Give everyone a brand new car …insured by AIG

(chorus)

What’s with all these bonuses they’re giving to the rich

they’re fillin’ up their pockets walking way without a hitch

I’ve gotta grab myself some TARP

cause I hear its going fast

now I know why they call it fanny ’cause their heads are up their…

AS I WAS SAYING

(chorus)

What are your Rights to stop an unlawful arrest?

By Christopher Hansen,

After being hurt several times by Cops and seeing them violate the law on a regular bases I have been researching what we, as Americans, can do to protect ourselves against the Criminals in Blue.

The following is from a United States Supreme Court case that EVERY American should read in full. This is just an excerpt. For the whole case CLICK HERE

At common law, if a party resisted arrest by an officer without warrant and who had no right to arrest him, and if in the course of that resistance the officer was killed, the offense of the party resisting arrest would be reduced from what would have been murder if the officer had had the right to arrest, to manslaughter. What would be murder if the officer had the right to arrest might be reduced to manslaughter by the very fact that he had no such right. So an officer, at common law, was not authorized to make an arrest without a warrant, for a mere misdemeanor not committed in his presence. If the officer had no right to arrest, the other party might resist the illegal attempt to arrest him, using no more force than was absolutely necessary to repel the assault constituting the attempt to arrest.

Another Story About Las Vegas Metro

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

We retired in Las Vegas after my husband served 26 years in the military. In June of 2006 my son who is manic depressive was having an episode where he was so paranoid that a lot of people wanted him dead.I knew he needed medical attention to calm him down because from his appearance looked like he was going to have a heart attack. I called 311 for an ambulance and 2 police officers came and wanted to take over the situation. The rookie said its his first day on the field. Next thing I knew he called a back up of police cars where they surrounded my house with there guns drawn. I told the rookie “Look,I don’t want any shooting here’ not even a second after I heard about 7 shots, one louder than the others. That time I was at the side of the house talking to the rookie. I even wanted to talk to the supervisor when they arrived but the rookie said “no,no”. They approached the house with no lights or sirens. My son didn’t even know there were cops outside. The front of my house is surrounded has a locked gate almost 4 feet. They called the house. Phillip came out with his empty hands up and shouted “Go ahead just kill me mother f@ckers”. And that’s exactly what they did. I wasn’t told he was dead until 3 hours later. While he was laying down there dead.

I was told the paramedics were working on him. In spite of 2 ambulances there my son wasn’t taken to the hospital. My son was shot outside my door right behind my locked gate. They searched my house even when I told them they need a search warrant to do it. The coronel investigator named James Vecvar shouted at me and said ‘if you don’t sign this paper giving us permission to search your house you might not even be able to come back to your house’. What was I to do– my husband was a seaman in the middle of the Indian Ocean that time.

My head was spinning around. I knew my son was dead but I was hoping for miracles that this was just a bad dream. But my son is really dead and tragedy haunts me every living day of my life. I tell you this because I don’t see you. Its just like a replay from my head. If you were in front of me I’ll probably just say I don’t want to talk about it. They didn’t just kill my son but as a mother I was subjected to mental torture way beyond a human being. One hour and 20 minutes after the shooting the coroner investigator took me to an dark empty parking lot. Just him and I. He was yelling at me. I thought I would be executed too and no one will ever know how. The system is corrupt. In my heart no matter what there is no justice. It will only be handed to the powerful ones. But we are nobody. Just another taxpaying American hoping for a better society. A better society is inside the walls of military bases where you live in idealism of serving and protecting your mother country. I’m glad I’m older now I don’t have to see what will happen to his country.

Police Torture People in Las Vegas Again

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

By Christopher Hansen,

We received a response to A Small Victory Against Nevada’s Tyranny, from a lady named Jaclyn who was just recently beaten by the police in Las Vegas. She is obviously one more victim of our out of control police in Vegas. We will let her tell her own story.

Jaclyn Says:
January 16th, 2009 at 11:37 pm edit

Thank you so much for posting this- I am in the very beginning stages of waging my own battle against Clark County, NV..

My boyfriend and I are from CA and are victims of police brutality, kidnapping, and torture by Las Vegas Metro Police and the Clark County Detention Center. I was recently visiting LV for the first time in my life- we were patrons at a casino when we witnessed metro police abusing this girl in the middle of the casino floor- throwing her onto the ground as she screamed “get them off me!” and seemed to offer no resistance. I was shocked and just watched in silence. My boyfriend said in a tone loud enough for them to hear - “they’re abusing that woman!” One of the officers looked at my boyfriend after he said this but continued to drag this woman away, out of sight. We continued to gamble in the casino for about 30 minutes more when the officers came up to us and demanded to see our ID and follow them into a back room. We complied fully, my boyfriend even asked if he could cash out his voucher from the slot machine and they yelled at him to “keep moving”.

When we got in the back room we saw the girl (who was being tossed around earlier) tied at hands and feet to a chair along with a bunch more uniformed people standing around. They brought me and my partner to separate corners of the room. I kept asking why I was there and they wouldn’t say anything. Then I said, “Are we here because my boyfriend tried to be a good Samaritan and stick up for this complete stranger?!” and pointed to the girl tied up in the corner of the room.

When I pointed to the girl a group of them grabbed me forcefully by the arms as if I had a weapon or was trying to hurt someone and spun me around so my face was to the wall, back facing all of them, crushing my wrists together hard. (At this time they turned my boyfriend around and put him in handcuffs. When he asked them why they were handcuffing him one of the officers replied, “We know the nature of the male” but my boyfriend did not resist and let them handcuff him).

I pulled away for a moment because he was seriously hurting my wrist and one of them said, “You’re resisting arrest,” and I asked what for and told them to lighten their grip because they were really hurting my arm and in response one of them squeezed even tighter in their grip (!) to where he sprained my “carpal navicular bone” (my wrist). I have hospital records, photos, to prove it). I flailed and kicked in reaction to the pain and then one of them said “that’s battery of an officer” and then I don’t know how many of them grabbed me and started tossing me around- they grabbed me by my shirt, off the ground and threw me to the ground- I am a 5′4″ 113 lb female with no prior arrests, no history of violence or misconduct of any kind! I blacked out.

I had bruises all over my body (have proof). They tied me by the hands and feet and dragged me to a patrol car where I waited for 30 minutes. (Meanwhile inside my boyfriend heard the rest of them say ((after searching all of our stuff and not finding anything)) “so what are we doing, trespassing?” They uncuffed my boyfriend only after he signed a paper accusing him of “trespassing” ((we were staying at a hotel and were paying customers (have proof)). And then told him I was arrested for “kicking an officer” and was told I was being taken to Clark County Detention Center.

I was booked for “Battery of a Police Officer”, “Battery by a prisoner”, “resisting arrest”, and “obstruction”, although on all of the documents I have received since the charges are always slightly different (??).

My boyfriend paid $4,400.00 in person, in cash immediately when he got there. He was told that if he did it this way (instead of him paying by card or only a %) that I would be released in 4-6 hours.

I TOO, DENIED THIS “TUBERCULOSIS VACCINATION” THAT CLARK COUNTY DETENTION CENTER STAFF SAID WAS “STANDARD PROCEDURE”. It conflicts with my personal belief/religion and I was terrified and didn’t trust it! I talked to other inmates who said they didn’t have to take any shot at all.

I WAS FORCED TO SIT IN THE SAME CHAIR IN THE CORNER OF THE PROCESSING ROOM FOR OVER 24 HOURS WEARING A MASK FOR REFUSAL OF TAKING THIS SHOT. I WAS DENIED WATER MANY TIMES SAYING I WOULD “INFECT THE FOUNTAIN”, THEY ALSO DENIED ME USE OF PHONE AND SOMETIMES EVEN BATHROOM!!! MY BOYFRIEND WAS ALSO TOLD WHEN HE KEPT SHOWING UP AT THE DETENTION CENTER ASKING WHY I HADN’T BEEN RELEASED YET THAT IT WAS BECAUSE I WAS, “BEING DIFFICULT” IN REFUSING THIS “TUBERCULOSIS VACCINATION.”

After sitting in this chair for about 26 hours (and being yelled at anytime I tried to even stretch my legs out in front of me or put my arms inside the short sleeved T-shirt they gave me to keep warm in the freezing cold room(they took away all of my warm clothes and gave me a skirt, flip flops and the t shirt), they moved me to a “bio-hazard” room which I was forced to disinfect by hand myself. A guard told me that the guy in there before me had some infection that had not yet been diagnosed.

I am still in shock that this happened and am trying to collect as much info as I can- similar stories and such. I am a little scared after reading this article and many others I have found on the net which all say that the Clark County Justice system is extremely corrupt. I have just sent recorded and certified affidavits accepting the oath of office on the cop and the judge. Can anyone help me?? Is there any way I could get your name or case # to possibly refer to it?? Does anyone know a criminal defense lawyer in Nevada who will actually stand up against the cops and casino$$ ??

Group wants more tax slaves

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

Well here is comes folks. The Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada is proposing all kinds of tax increase and even a State Income tax.

Why? It’s for the children, of course.

Perhaps we should remember these words from the Declaration of Independence. “He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.”

People are losing their homes due to government corruption and allowing the private Federal Reserve Bank to print up so-called “dollars” by the trillions and all these Socialist can think to do is raise your taxes so that Government Schools can continue to force feed your children the same garbage education that keeps them enslaved.

And remember that the Republicans and the Democrats put you all in this situation because you did not want to waste your vote on Independent Americans. So when you are hungry and without a home remember that you voted for these people. And make no mistake that BOTH the Republicans and Democrats did this to you.

Here are some of their proposals found in the Las Vegas Review Journal

• Doubling the modified business tax, from 0.63 percent to 1.26 percent, for $279 million in annual revenue;

• Requiring casinos to pay sales tax on comped meals, generating $140 million per year in taxes;

• Increasing the hotel room tax by 3 percentage points, a measure proposed by the teachers union and approved by voters in Clark and Washoe counties, which would bring in an estimated $125 million annually;

• Charging a 3 percent tax on capital gains, interest and dividends over $200,000 per year, raising $380 million.

The last suggestion would require amending the state constitution, which would take several years as it requires a statewide referendum.

The group called for instituting a state income tax but didn’t say how it should be structured. That too would mean changing the constitution.

So here comes the increase in your slavery and remember remember that you claim to live in a free country.

Compare this (40% to 75% total local, State and Federal tax rate) to the plight of medieval serfs. They only had to give the lord of the manor a third of their output and they were considered slaves. So what does that make us? –Daniel J. Mitchell, economist

“Freedom—is the absence of the awareness of restraint.” –David Rockefeller

So just sit back and do nothing like you have most of your life. Everything will be fine if you just keep doing nothing.

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. –Edmund Burke

An example of SPIN

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

By Christopher Hansen,

I got the following email today and although I do not believe it to be correct it is a wonderful example of how SPIN works. Everyone that watches Fox News or MSNBC or any of the controlled media should consider this when listening to the talking heads.

Enjoy it!

Judy Wallman, a professional genealogy researcher in southern California, was doing some personal work on her own family tree. She discovered that Harry Reid’s great-great uncle, Remus Reid, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana in 1889.  Both Judy and Harry Reid share this common ancestor.

The only known photograph of Remus shows him standing on the gallows in Montana territory. On the back of the picture Judy obtained during her research is this inscription: ‘Remus Reid, horse thief, sent to   Montana Territorial Prison 1885, escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six  times. Caught by Pinkerton detectives, convicted and hanged in  1889.’

So Judy recently e-mailed Congressman Harry Reid for information about their great-great uncle. Believe it or not, Harry Reid’s staff sent back the following biographical sketch for her genealogy research:

‘Remus Reid was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory . His business empire grew to include  acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad. Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to government service, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the  railroad. In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency. In 1889.  Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed.’

NOW THAT is how it’s done folks! That’s real SPIN.

9-cent IRS dilemma leaves lawyer confused

He owes a nickel and is due 4-cent refund

BY JOE SWICKARD • FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER •January 3, 2009

“It’s not the money; it’s the principle” is an old saying that usually brings a knowing, world-weary scoff from veteran Detroit criminal defense lawyer James Howarth.

“But I think this time with the IRS, it is the principle,” Howarth said.

After all — this is about 9 cents.

While many may fight the Internal Revenue Service over thousands of dollars, Howarth said he’s in a dilemma with the federal agency, and he insists it’s no chump change controversy.

“We are talking the IRS here,” he said.

In mid-November, Howarth received notice that his FICA account, even after an adjustment, was out of whack.

He owed the IRS a nickel. And the IRS was serious.

It advised him to act promptly “to avoid additional penalty and/or interest.”

Howarth started calculating how much that nickel was going to cost him.

As he figures it, there is the 5 cents plus the cost of a check — payment must be made by check or money order. Then there is his CPA’s fee, an envelope, his secretary’s time, his own time and a 42-cent stamp.

“The costs are several hundred percent over the nickel,” he said.

But then a second letter arrived. This one said Howarth had a refund coming.

The amount? Four cents. But to get it, Howarth would have to ask for it because it was less than $1.

“When I owe them a nickel, I must pay them,” he said. “It’s not optional. But when they owe me, I have to ask for it.”

Howarth said it is unclear from the letters what connection — if any — the 5-cent obligation has to the 4-cent refund.

He said he is unsure if he now owes one penny or if there was a recalculation resulting in a 9-cent swing in his favor.

“I just don’t know,” he said. “But I do know that if I were to walk into the IRS office with pennies taped to a piece of cardboard, they wouldn’t accept it.”

Howarth said he called the 800 telephone number on his letters, but gave up after “an inordinate amount of time on hold. And I’m sure the agent would have been delighted to have this file land on his desk.”

IRS spokesman Luis D. Garcia said the agency does not comment on individual accounts.

As for Howarth, he said he’s consulting his accountant — and he might try to follow the lead of Wall Street financiers in seeking a resolution, although he fears his Detroit address will work against him.

“I might apply for a bailout,” Howarth said. “But, for us, there seems to be some sort of stigma.”
