Lt. Lew Roberts Robbery/Homicide Bureau 828-3521

On October 29, 2009 at approximately 2:24 p.m., officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department were conducting directed patrol activities in the area of Cheyenne and Michael Way. While at that location officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for committing several violations. After the vehicle was stopped, an officer approached the lone occupant of the vehicle in an attempt to gain information from the driver. The occupant of the vehicle was asked to exit the vehicle and it was at that point that the subject became extremely agitated and non compliant with the officer. The subject fled from the officer westbound on Cheyenne from Michael Way. Officers went in foot pursuit of the subject and deployed an Electronic Control Device, which was unsuccessful in stopping the suspect.

During the foot pursuit, the suspect, who has been identified as Raymond J. Duensing age 31 years of age, attempted to retrieve a handgun from his pants pocket. As a result, one officer fired his weapon striking Duensing multiple times. Duensing was subdued and subsequently transported to UMC trauma, where he was listed as being in critical but stable condition.

Per LVMPD policy, the identification of the shooting officer is being withheld for 48 hours. Additionally a photo of the suspect will be released when one becomes available.
