About the Democrats in the same race.
Vanderbeek is a life skills consultant who has worked with at-risk youth for the AmeriCorps program. A native of Idaho, he graduated from high school in Panaca, he has been a Pahrump resident for four years.
Vanderbeek grew up in the Republican Party but defected to the Independent American Party, which has 1,436 registered voters in Nye County as of January, or 5.7 percent of the total.
“The Republican Party has become the party for big war, big deficits and civil rights violations, police state behavior and other things even worse,†Vanderbeek said. “The Democratic Party is confiscation of wealth, growing the welfare state in the name of some form of equality they want to enforce on everyone. The Independent American Party is the Constitution party.â€
The original intent of the founding fathers in drafting the Constitution was that it not be elastic or changeable, Vanderbeek said.

“We see leading Democrats and Republicans allowing the invasion of our nation. Illegal immigrants murder thousands of people each year; they steal millions of dollars worth of wealth, they fill up our prisons,†he said. “That is one of the consequences of having borders that are not enforced.â€
Vanderbeek said he believes in gun rights, private property rights, freedom of speech and petition.
“We shouldn’t have to buy health care or do anything in that regard. We shouldn’t have a real ID or a big brother to put cameras in our homes or ID chips in our driver’s licenses. The Patriot Act has to be repealed,†he said.
Vanderbeek outlined three priorities he said will change the future for Nevada. The first is economic self-sufficiency.
“The Federal Reserve System is just a bust. It’s a scam. It’s a fraud in every sense of the word,†he said. “Being able to become self-sufficient as Nevadans will require us to no longer participate in a debt-based economy,â€
He wants Nevada to regulate its own police forces, like Arizona, and “reject any kind of police state measures the federal government is trying to impose on Nevada and its citizens.â€
The third thing is redoing the tax system.
“Property taxes are communist taxes,†he said, adding they are evil because they are unfair to elderly people on fixed incomes. “We could do something like a sales tax on the understanding we drop property taxes.â€
Vanderbeek said politicians say they don’t have enough money for education, but there’s always enough for war.
“Counties hide their investments and show their expenses,†he said. “I think there’s an immense amount of wealth that has been taken from citizens of which they know nothing.â€
