In researching the web for other cases where female officers were intentionally injured or discriminated against by their fellow and/or superior officers, I came across this web page. It appears this is a Nevada-based group and I cannot tell if you have interaction with other states on this issue. I was the 4th consecutive female officer under Sgt Daniel Byrd of Alaska Commercial Vehicle Enforcement to lose my job in the wake of a work-related injury; THREE of us are permanently disabled by our injuries. Sgt Byrd’s repeated (and documented) remarks about his “biblical belief (that) it’s a man’s world and women don’t belong in positions of authority” backed his reasoning in handing out the heaviest work (moving 100-plus lb boxes of freight for instance, NOT in the job description) to the smallest employees… to prove we could not do a “man’s job”. The impact on our lives, our families, and the drain on Alaska’s economy for work comp and disability claims seems like it would eventually get some attention; however, nobody CARES. Attorneys are not interested in going after the state and the EEOC is either in their pockets or simply too far away to care… and the press does not even return calls or emails. Frankly I don’t care about a law suit, I’d like to see the responsible party in jail for abusing his authority and intentionally injuring hard-working officers. I am writing today to see if there is any legal advice or moral support that can be found in this forum for my situation. It will be 2 years since I was terminated in a couple of months and after that my chances of legal action will be minimal. If anyone has any information for me on this subject I hope you will let me know.
